GIGABYTE B550 X Series: Preview

Socket AM4 · AMD B550 · Announced 31 July 2026

Pre-release preview — announced, not released

GIGABYTE announced the B550 X Series on 31 July 2026. These boards have not yet been released, and we have not seen or tested one. Everything below is drawn from GIGABYTE's own announcement and the trade press coverage of it, all three linked under Sources. This is not a review, and it is not a spec sheet: where GIGABYTE has not published a number, we do not print one.

What GIGABYTE announced

On 31 July 2026, GIGABYTE unveiled the B550 X Series: a new range of motherboards for Socket AM4 built on AMD's B550 chipset. GIGABYTE presents the series as a refresh of the AM4 platform rather than a new platform of its own.

The confirmed points are short, and that is the whole story at this stage:

  • Announcement date: 31 July 2026.
  • Series: B550 X Series.
  • Socket and chipset: Socket AM4, AMD B550.
  • Model families: three — Gaming, Eagle and AORUS Elite.
  • Form factors: ATX and Micro-ATX.
  • Named feature: PCIe EZ-Latch Plus, a quick-release mechanism for removing large graphics cards.
  • Positioning: GIGABYTE pitches the series as a match for the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D (eight Zen 3 cores, 96 MB L3 cache).

What GIGABYTE has not said

This is the more useful half of the announcement, because it is where guesswork usually creeps in. As of this page's publication date, GIGABYTE has not published:

  • A complete model list, or the exact name of any individual board.
  • Pricing, anywhere, for any model.
  • A date for when the boards go on sale. GIGABYTE has said only that the boards will reach the market in stages.
  • Per-board specifications of any kind — power delivery, M.2 slot counts, storage port counts, wired networking speeds, wireless standards, memory support or audio hardware.

We are not going to fill those gaps from the older B550 boards we already cover. A refresh is not obliged to carry anything over, and a spec copied across from a four-year-old board would be a guess dressed up as a fact.

Why this is worth watching

A brand-new B550 range in 2026 is unusual. Socket AM4 is AMD's previous-generation desktop platform, and the boards we already cover on it — the GIGABYTE B550 AORUS Elite V2 among them — are DDR4 designs that have been on sale for years. New models on an older socket matter to the large group of builders who already own an AM4 CPU and DDR4 memory, and who would rather replace a board than rebuild a whole system.

GIGABYTE's choice of the Ryzen 7 5800X3D as its reference point says who the series is aimed at: people staying on AM4, not people moving off it. Whether the B550 X Series is actually a good buy for them depends entirely on price and specifications, and we have neither.

What we will do next

Nothing on this page is a recommendation, because there is not yet enough information to make one. If you are shopping for an AM4 board today, our existing AM4 guides cover boards you can actually buy and that we have written up in full.

When GIGABYTE publishes specification pages for individual B550 X models, we will add board records for them in the normal way and link them from here.
