Intel 900-Series Chipsets and LGA 1954

Pre-release — almost none of this platform has been officially confirmed

There are no 900-series motherboards. There is no LGA 1954 processor you can buy. We have not seen or tested any part of this platform, and neither has anyone else outside Intel and its partners. A detailed 900-series specification table is circulating widely, and this page does not reproduce it. Where Intel has not published a number, we do not print one.

What Intel has confirmed

This section holds only claims we could trace to something Intel published itself, or to an executive speaking on the record. It is short. That is the honest state of this platform in August 2026.

  • Nova Lake is a real, named Intel desktop product. Chief executive Lip-Bu Tan wrote on Intel's own newsroom on 24 July 2025: “We also must drive continued progress on Nova Lake to close gaps in the high-end desktop space.”
  • It succeeds Arrow Lake, and it is aimed at gaming. On Intel's third-quarter 2025 earnings call, Tan said: “Arrow Lake shipments have increased, and our next-generation Nova Lake product will bring new architectural and software upgrades to further strengthen our offerings, particularly in the PC gaming halo space.”
  • Arrow Lake is still Intel's current desktop platform. Intel Core Ultra Series 3 — the Panther Lake generation announced at CES 2026 — is a mobile and edge product line. Intel's announcement names no desktop part, so the Z890 and B860 boards we cover are not last-generation hardware.

That is the complete list. As of today, Intel's newsroom carries no Nova Lake platform announcement, no launch date, no socket name and no chipset name. We checked it, along with Intel's investor releases and the third-quarter 2025 earnings-call transcript, on 21 August 2026.

What is reported but not confirmed

Everything in this section is attributed. It is here because readers are searching for it and deserve a straight answer about where it comes from — not because we can stand behind it.

  • Timing. Several outlets, including TechSpot and TechPowerUp, report that Intel executives have pointed at the second half of 2026 for Nova Lake. We could not find that commitment in an Intel-published document, and we are not going to print a retail date for it.
  • Branding. The parts are widely described as Core Ultra Series 4, or Core Ultra 400. TechSpot hedges this itself — “presumably labeled” — and Intel has announced no branding.
  • The socket. LGA 1954 is the name in every report. Igor's Lab, which covered the platform in detail, states the position plainly: “The socket LGA1954 and the 900-series chipsets remain unconfirmed early information for now” and “Intel has not confirmed this yet.”
  • Five chipset tiers. Reports name Z990 as the flagship, Z970 as a step-down enthusiast part, W980 as a workstation part, Q970 as a commercial part, and B960 as the mainstream part. We do not cover W- or Q-series boards, so those two get a mention here and nothing more.
  • Memory. The reporting describes the platform as DDR5 only, with no DDR4 path. Intel has said nothing on the subject.
  • No entry-level tier. No budget H-series chipset appears in any report. Absence from a leak is not evidence that a part does not exist.
  • Processor details. A maximum core count, a graphics architecture and a manufacturing process are attributed to Intel by several outlets. None of the three appears in the Intel material or the earnings-call transcript we read, so we treat them as reported rather than confirmed, and we do not print the figures.

What we are not printing, and why

A complete per-chipset specification table for the 900-series is circulating. It has lane counts, storage port counts, connectivity tiers and overclocking support for all five chipsets. It looks authoritative, and it is carried by Tom's Hardware, Igor's Lab, WCCFTech, OC3D, TweakTown, TechPowerUp and others. We are not reproducing any of it.

The reason is simple, and it is the rule we will apply to every pre-launch page from here on:

Several outlets repeating one leaker is one source, not several. We count independence at the origin, not at the byline.

Every version of that table traces back to the same single source: the leaker Jaykihn, posting on 9 February 2026. Igor's Lab says so directly — “It all started in early February with a leak from the well-known hardware leaker Jaykihn, who mentioned a 900-series chipset family for Nova Lake-S, including LGA1954.” Six links in a sources list reads like corroboration. Here it is one person's spreadsheet, quoted six times.

The concrete evidence that this matters is that the reporting does not agree with itself. The original leak table lists one generation of high-speed external connectivity for the flagship chipset; secondary write-ups of the same leak have promoted it to the next generation up, with a bandwidth figure attached that appears nowhere in the source. Two reports from the same outlet also disagree about whether the socket name came from Intel at all: one presents LGA 1954 as Intel-confirmed, the other files the socket and the chipsets under leaks. When a set of numbers cannot survive being copied between articles, it has no business on a page whose product is reader trust.

We will publish the specifications when Intel or a board manufacturer publishes them. Not before.

What this means if you are buying now

The one practical consequence of everything above is the socket. LGA 1954 is reported to be a new socket, and a new socket means nothing carries over: an existing Intel board will not take a Nova Lake processor, whatever the chipset ends up being called. A motherboard bought today is a motherboard for today's processor.

That is not an argument for waiting, and it is not an argument against waiting. We have no price and no availability information for this platform, so we have nothing to base such advice on. How we will update this page

Pre-launch coverage gets messy when nobody writes down what counts as a fact. This is our rule, and it applies to every page like this one:

  • Confirmed — stated by the vendor on its own materials, or by an executive on the record. We may write it in our own voice and put it in a specification table.
  • Reported — carried by named outlets that identify their source. We attribute it every time, and it never goes in a specification table.
  • Rumoured — anonymous, single-source or unverifiable. We may name the thing; we never quantify it.

A claim moves up a tier only when it appears on a first-party page from Intel or a board manufacturer. When a claim graduates, the “Last updated” date changes. Nothing else changes it — not a re-check that finds no news, and not a fresh round of coverage of the same February leak.

We re-check this page against Intel's own materials roughly every four weeks until launch, and immediately if Intel announces anything.
