The AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D is the Zen 5 gaming chip: 8 cores and 16 threads, with 96MB of L3 cache supplied by second-generation 3D V-Cache. AMD publishes a default TDP of 120W, and unlike the X3D parts before it this one is unlocked for overclocking — Precision Boost Overdrive, Curve Optimizer and EXPO memory tuning are all available.

That sets a low bar for the motherboard. 120W is an easy load for any current AM5 board, so raw VRM capacity matters far less here than it does on a 16-core part like the Ryzen 9 9950X. What actually matters is a BIOS that supports Ryzen 9000, DDR5 with EXPO, enough M.2 slots for the drives you own, and the rear I/O you need. It will not make the 9800X3D faster than a cheaper board would.
